Peter Moores wants a reaction from his Lancashire side when they begin their crucial LV= County Championship match against Hampshire on Thursday
Lancashire are still smarting from last night’s Friends Provident Twenty20 quarter final defeat at the hands of Essex at Chelmsford, but they are still firmly in the running for the four-day title.
“It was a tough night, a really tough night for everybody. They key is that we make sure we don’t have a carry over,” said Moores. “It hurts like hell, but we’ve got to be ready to play at Hampshire.
“It shouldn’t change the game. I’m hoping it’s going to make people more determined because the Championship is a tough competition to win.”
Lancashire dominated last week’s LV= Division One match against Durham at the Riverside, failing to force home the win due to bad weather, and it means they sit 30 points behind leaders Yorkshire with two games in hand.
More realistically, however, they sit 24 behind second placed Nottinghamshire, who have played nine like Lancashire.
“If we get a win, we’ll be right in the mix,” Moores said. “We’ve played some good and competitive cricket in the Championship, and we want to keep doing that.”
Lancashire trained at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday without opening batsman Stephen Moore after the 29 year-old dislocated his right shoulder in the field at Chelmsford.
Moore will see a specialist on Thursday to find out the extent of the damage.
Moores added: “He was in a lot of pain. They (Lancashire physio Sam Byrne and the paramedics) had to give him drugs on the side of the field before they could get him off. It looked serious.”
